How to Get Your Baby to Take the Bottle
If your baby is currently being breastfed and you decided to introduce the bottle you may be wondering what the best way to do that is, especially if your baby is not very keen on the idea. But just because your little one won’t take the bottle now doesn’t mean that he or she won’t ever adjust to it!
here are a few tips to help ease the process of switching:
timing- do not offer the bottle when your babe is super hungry. instead nurse with one breast and then finish with the bottle. Either first thing in the morning or exact opposite – in the middle of the night.
Try changing the position of feeding completely, if it’s in the day time flip her so she’s facing outwards and maybe try walking around the house while you try to introduce the bottle.
Temperature matters – make sure it’s luke warm, the closer to the breastmilk temperature the better.
If you’re just starting out and want to switch to formula, don’t make the switch right away. Instead, try to feed mainly with breastmilk and add only 1 tbsp. of formula, then up the ratio of formula as your babe gets used to the taste.
You don’t need to give your babe 3 bottles a day (unless you’d like to) in order for her to take the bottle. But you do need to offer one. Try starting off with twice a week to start so that it takes the stress off you as parents but it still keeps your babe used to the bottle.
If your babe is older 8-10 months and taking solids you can try putting it in a sippy cup.
