It takes a Village

A truly Remarkable story

We have all heard the saying it takes a village to raise a child and IT REALLY DOES!!! But this Blog is all about an AMAZING organization called ITAV “ It Takes A Village”.

It is truly a remarkable story, one I want to share with you!!!    It all started from one Facebook post of a mama wanting to donate some baby clothing. Leah (one of the founders of ITAV) jumped on this and collected the items and donated them to several families that were facing economic hardships. She saw a need for providing FREE essential baby items for families in need and along with another amazing mama Rachel, ITAV was born. These mama’s are nothing short of INCREDIBLE! They started this out of the living room of their home and would take in donations of used and new baby supplies. Then they pack boxes for families that are facing hard times and  provide them with FREE baby supplies for the FIRST YEAR of the baby’s life. How AMAZING is this?!?!?!

FREE baby supplies for the FIRST YEAR!!!!

This incredible organization is 100% volunteer run and services the Foothills region including Okotoks, High River, Turner Valley, Black Diamond and the surrounding First Nations Communities. All these boxes are kept confidential and are created with love and compassion. They host regular packing events where you can sign up to sort through the donated clothes as well as pack up baby boxes. I was thrilled to help at one of the packing events. It was so much fun picking out all the items for a baby for his first year!!

Baby Boxes

Items that are included in these incredible boxes are: Baby clothes (0-12 months), baby blankets, receiving blankets, diapers, baby wipes, baby towels, sleep sacks, car seat covers, infant toys, crib sheets, infant carriers, baby books, play mats, bath tubs, baby shampoo, soap, jackets.

Other Programs that they offer

Not only do they supply baby boxes with a year supply of essentials but they also have a Car Seat Program, a Baby Sleep Safe program and a Christmas program called Baby’s First Christmas.

FREE Car Seats

Free NEW Car Seats are provided to families who are referred to them by an organization that works with the Foothills families. The Car Seat Program is made possible thanks to generous grants that they receive from the Foothills Salvage and Recycling Society. Last year 33 car seats were delivered to families in need!!

FREE New Cribs & Mattresses

They also provide FREE NEW Cribs and Mattresses as part of their Baby Sleep Safe program. In 2017, there was a total of 22 cribs and mattresses that were purchased and delivered!  This program is made possible by the generous grants from the Sheep River Health Trust, Foothills Ladies Compassion Cup and donations from Brad Pond Realty.
