Lindsay is a Registered Nurse, Lactation Counselor, and Sleep Coach working with families in North Vancouver, Vancouver, and West Vancouver.

Tell us about your own journey and how your experiences have changed the way you look at motherhood and parenting.

When I started my own journey as a new mom I found it to be so overwhelming. It seemed like everything had complications from getting pregnant to my recovery to breastfeeding to sleeping. I was bombarded with advice from others- most without me asking for it. It wasn’t until I hired a Mama Coach myself that I really felt like I could handle it and it was going to be ok. This was my inspiration to be able to help parents and families the same way I was so fortunate to experience. Combining this passion with my clinical nursing knowledge is how I can best support parents through their own journey.

Tell us a little about your nursing career.

Nursing was something that always was of interest to me. I loved the idea of learning about the human body and being able to help others. I began my career on a cardiac and high acuity unit. This was an amazing experience that led me back to school to obtain a specialty certificate in emergency education. In the emergency department I have been able to work with all populations from newborns to the elderly and everything in between!

What are the two most important lessons you've learned working with moms, babies, and families?

You know your baby the best. Follow your instincts but don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Family dynamics, lifestyles and expectations are so widely different and unique. The “right” way is the way that works for you.

If you had one bit of advice to give to a new parent, what would it be?

Try not compare yourself, your baby or your parenting to others. Every experience is unique. Also, zippered sleepers- because no one has time for snaps at 3am.

Self-care is a big challenge for parents. How do you maintain your own energy and outlook?

This rings very true for me. Carving out time for yourself can be hard but it is so important. For me, that might look like a walk, cuddles with my cat, socializing or just a long hot shower. It’s ok for you to be the priority sometimes!

Is there anything we've missed that you'd like to share with Mama Coach clients?

Motherhood looks different for everyone. It will seem overwhelming at times but remember- this too shall pass.
