Leslie Royce, RN
Tell us about your own journey and how your experiences have changed the way you look at motherhood and parenting.
I have spent 12 years working with women in a LDRP sitting. So often When working with women during their post partum stay I wished that I had more time to help them with the steep learning curve into motherhood or I could give them my phone number to come along side them in the first few weeks after going home.
As a mom myself I often needed a little extra support in the early months of having a new little one. Not just with the first child but with each child because each baby is a new transition to motherhood. I am so excited to be able to be the person who is now being the support for other women that I wish I had.
Tell us a little about your nursing career.
I have been a nurse since 2004. I spent the first part of career as a float nurse and moved into women’s health in 2008 and haven’t looked back! I have served as both a labor and delivery nurse and post partum nurse during that time. I have also worked as a special care nurse nurse.
What are the two most important lessons you've learned working with moms, babies, and families?
New moms put far too much pressure on themselves and both parents and babies have to learn new skills- not just mom!
If you had one bit of advice to give to a new parent, what would it be?
Patience is key for all parties involved. As a new mom you have to give yourself grace because being a mom is a mix of nature and nurture! There is a pretty steep learning curve for all members of the family give it time and dont be afraid to do it your own way because there isn’t a right and wrong.
Self-care is a big challenge for parents. How do you maintain your own energy and outlook?
I exercise almost everyday (love those endorphins!), pray and make Connecting with friends and family a priority. Those are the things that fill my tank!
Is there anything we've missed that you'd like to share with Mama Coach clients?
In addition to being a nurse, I am momma to 8 kiddos!
