Ashley Tillotson, RN
Tell us about your own journey and how your experiences have changed the way you look at motherhood and parenting.
I have been a nurse for 14 years. I have experienced working with children and adults in many different settings. I have been able to see how families connect and grow together. I can support them with adapting to life with a new baby and the challenges that come along with that.
Tell us a little about your nursing career.
I have been a nurse since I was 20 years old. I started out my career in skilled nursing facility and then worked at the hospital and experienced pediatric/ maternity clinics for several years and surgical floor. I made my way back to skilled nursing facility and specialize in wound care and care for people of all ages. I’ve cared for both adults and children for 14 years.
What are the two most important lessons you've learned working with moms, babies, and families?
Every family is unique. One technique may work for one family but for another and that is ok. Listening and supporting are most important through this process. There are many ways to do one thing and that’s great.
If you had one bit of advice to give to a new parent, what would it be?
Be easy in yourself. You are doing amazing! Do what works for your family. Sometimes you think it should of went a certain way but ends up needing to changed up a bit and that’s ok.
Self-care is a big challenge for parents. How do you maintain your own energy and outlook?
You must make yourself a priority, even if it’s just for a few minutes a day. I make sure to get up before anyone and enjoy the quiet of the morning.
Is there anything we've missed that you'd like to share with Mama Coach clients?
I am a parent to 3 amazing children. I have a 7-year-old son. 4-year-old daughter and 2-year daughter. They are the most rewarding job. They are all so individual and have to do things differently with each one of them. I am a believer in working together and trying new things. I can’t wait to meet you and help you on this journey called motherhood.
