My journey as a Mama Coach
” After becoming a mom, I quickly realized it truly is the hardest (most fulfilling) job in the world. Now, to be a part of The Mama Coach team, where I can help other families with a variety of challenges, is an honor. I truly look forward to meeting you and your families and supporting you on this incredible journey!”
My name is Ashley and I am so happy to bring The Mama Coach to Kelowna! I am a Registered Nurse, lactation counsellor, infant sleep coach, and mama to a sweet little girl and boy.
I have been a nurse for ten years and found my passion in women’s health. Throughout my nursing career, I’ve gained invaluable experience on a combined surgical and obstetrical ward, another combined ward that included antepartum, gynecology, and gyne-oncology patients, and most recently in the operating room at a women’s hospital.
When I found out I was pregnant, I exercised regularly, ate healthy- did everything I could to have a healthy pregnancy and ultimately a healthy baby. For some unexplained reason, our daughter decided to enter the world five weeks early. Being born five weeks early brought some challenges with breastfeeding, but I knew I wanted to stick with it. Our daughter and I had a six day hospital stay, and by the time we were discharged, I felt very confident with how to successfully breastfeed our late preterm baby. This was thanks to the help of a Lactation Consultant. She was very encouraging and provided me with lots of support. To this day, I still talk about how great she was. After the challenges I faced with breastfeeding, I always thought how great it would be to help other moms. I later heard of The Mama Coach and it was a no-brainer for me. To be able to help other moms and make motherhood easier would be an amazing and fulfilling opportunity for me.
What makes being a parent so hard, is that you never know what you are in for. Each pregnancy and each child can bring with them their own set of issues or surprises (and this was hard on a type-A personality like me). A couple of additional issues we experienced with our daughter include an egg allergy, as well as a move from Manitoba to British Columbia, which disrupted her sleep routine. I consulted with a Mama Coach to help get her back on track, which was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Our daughter was delivered naturally, but five weeks early and our son was born via c-section after discovering he was breech and trying an unsuccessful flip. I realized first hand that no two pregnancies are alike and deliveries can be so different as well.
After becoming a mom, I quickly realized it truly is the hardest (most fulfilling) job in the world. Now, to be a part of The Mama Coach team, where I can help other families with a variety of challenges, is an honor. I truly look forward to meeting you and your families and supporting you on this incredible journey!
