My journey as a Mama Coach
“Becoming a mother is one of the most thrilling, frightening and vulnerable times in a woman’s life. Through my commitment as a Mama Coach, I am embracing an opportunity to help new moms make the transition to motherhood less stressful.”
Early on in my own motherhood journey, I found myself pushed to the breaking point on more than one occasion. Living a significant distance from immediate family when our first child was born, I envied those with parents and siblings just around the corner. I struggled with postpartum anxiety, feeding issues and sleep deprivation. I wasn’t taking care of myself. I constantly felt like I was failing.
During my most difficult days, it was the support of experienced professionals that pulled me through, helping me emerge a stronger and more capable caregiver.
Today, I am a mom to three beautiful little ones, a wife, a fitness and nutrition advocate and a Registered Nurse, certified in both Alberta and Saskatchewan. Though my life is not without tough days, I have learned to manage the challenges and pay more attention to my own physical and mental wellbeing. I have learned that caring for myself is the only way to ensure my ability to provide quality care for others.
As a labor and delivery and postpartum nurse with more than seven years of hands-on medical experience, I have had the pleasure of supporting hundreds of families in welcoming new babies into the world. Through it all, I have played a part in stories of incredible joy and unbelievable hardship.
Becoming a mother is one of the most thrilling, frightening and vulnerable times in a woman’s life. Through my commitment as a Mama Coach, I am embracing an opportunity to help new moms make the transition to motherhood less stressful. It is my hope the lessons I’ve learned – both as a mother and health-care professional – will have a positive, lasting impact for the families I serve.
Truth is; at some point on our respective parenting journeys, there will be hard days. We are human and life’s toughest tests rarely come at a time and place of our choosing. It is how we respond to those challenges that makes the difference between ‘getting by’ and a truly joyful, fulfilling parenting experience.
