Being pregnant in the summer can be amazing and challenging all at the same time depending on how far along into your pregnancy you are. The bigger the bump, the more sweaty the mama, or is that just me?! Summer is full of family gatherings, BBQ’s, camping trips and maybe even a gender reveal or baby shower!
Enjoying a refreshing cocktail can be a staple for summer activities; however, when you’re growing a tiny human obviously this is out of the question. Mamas-to-be deserve to be as comfortable as possible in the scorching summer months especially when it gets brutally hot. While everyone else cracks a cold one you don’t have to feel left out! Mocktails resemble classic drinks, packing in all the same deliciousness, without the alcohol.
I have tried some delicious (non-alcoholic) mocktails to give you my top 3 for beating the summer heat this year. I love family friendly drinks and these are great for everyone! The best things in life are simple and all of these mocktails are as easy to make, as they are delicious. Putting in a little extra effort to make them look pretty does make all the difference. Who doesn’t want to sip on something beautiful! These mocktail recipes are also great if you are hosting a party for a mama to be. It is always great for that mamas to have something to cheers with that isn’t just water.
This drink resembles a Shirley Temple and is on the sweeter side. It is perfectly refreshing and will surely become a summer staple! It is ridiculously simple and oh so satisfying!
1 cup Sprite
1 cup Orange Juice
Maraschino cherries and orange slices (to garnish and make it that much more beautiful)
Fill 2 glasses with ice and splash in some grenadine. In a small pitcher combine the sprite and OJ then pour over the ice and grenadine slowly. Garnish and enjoy!
This half frozen mocktail is as delicious as it is pretty. You can always substitute light whipped cream and it is still just as satisfying!
4 ounces Pineapple Juice
8 ounces pureed strawberries
Splash of Sprite
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add in the pureed strawberries, pineapple juice and 4 tablespoons of whipped cream. Shake until smooth then pour into glasses with some extra whip cream on top!
The Arizona Sunset and the Pink Panther are delicious but do pack a bit of a sugar kick. While they are fabulous and great as a treat you ideally won’t want to drink more than one or two of them, as they aren’t the greatest for you nutritionally. I decided to add in a less sweat alternative for any of you mamas looking for a more healthy way to cool off this summer. This last recipe is simple, refreshing and contains very few ingredients!
Orange Cranberry Twist
This option allows us to be mindful of our sugar intake for our overall health and the health of our growing little babe. It is much less sweet but still refreshing and delicious!
½ an Orange freshly juiced
¼ cup pure cranberry juice
1 can original Perrier
2 lime wedges
Stevia (to sweeten if needed)
Mix together the cranberry and orange juice then squeeze in one wedge of lime. Fill a glass with ice and pour the juice in topping with the Perrier. Garnish with a lime wedge.
I hope you enjoy these recipes and although they wont get you tipsy they will help you get through those long summer months. Bonus: Not only are all of these mocktails delicious, but you won’t be left with a wicked summer hangover either! All of us at the mama coach are wishing you a summer full of fun, joy, and sunshine.
