Hello, my name is Jenn, a RN, and Lactation Counsellor based in Saskatoon, SK. I have 12 years experience in Pediatrics, and became a mom in 2011. I am excited to bring to The Mama Coach to Saskatchewan and look forward to helping you.
A little bit about me
First off, I have been a Pediatric Nurse since graduating from U of T in 2005; I always desired to be specialized in Pediatrics and Family Centered Care. I grew up with a medical condition that required many stays at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
Because of the care I received, and the bonds I developed with my healthcare professionals, I knew I always wanted to work with children and families.
I moved back to Saskatoon after graduating and got a job on Acute Care Pediatrics. Since 2012, I have also worked in the Pediatric Respite through homecare, and been a clinical instructor on the Pediatric ward for U of S and U of R.
“I became a mother in 2011, to a beautiful girl, who decided I was her one and only. She slept on me, she feed from me, I was her primary source of comfort. “
As a new mom, despite being a Pediatric Nurse who had worked shift work, I was exhausted mentally and physically. Like many moms, I was surviving, which is a common theme I feel for parents. I am thankful that my husband took it upon himself to research sleep training when our daughter was 7 months. He was tired of bedtime 1.5 hours or more, and naps rarely in her crib.
Due to my exhaustion and “I’m surviving” attitude, I struggled to find a solution on my own. My husband helped me find the solution for her sleep and, guess what, within a week I had a sleep routine, which eventually turned into ANYONE being able to put her to sleep.
Fast forward to 2013, and our beautiful boy arrived, who’s sleep habits were completely different!! OF COURSE! But let me tell you, it didn’t take 7 months this time, because I knew a sleep routine was possible, and how life changing it is for EVERYONE.
Why did I become a Mama Coach?
I love my job! I love helping families with their babies / children / teenagers. I was starting to not balance shift work and life very well. I was tired of being tired and desired a more “normal” work schedule. The Mama Coach allows me to help families while caring for my own.
“Whether you are pregnant, in the newborn phase or later, have feeding or sleeping concerns. Every child is different, and so are our parenting styles. I would love to help you!”
Motherhood is a role we don’t get any training or orientation for, and this culture of “mama guilt” can be so frustrating and overwhelming. Moms need support, and as the saying goes “it takes a village to raise a child”. But many parents don’t always have access to a “supportive community”, or have trouble navigating the immense internet help overload out there, or require education geared to their adult learning.
We do have amazing groups and resources in Saskatoon, sometimes we need a little personal 1-on-1 help, and I am that person for you.
I will help you find solutions that will make motherhood easier.
